Tyne and Wear Sport achieves all-important accreditation

A local partnership is celebrating after receiving national recognition for its work to make sport safer for children.

Tyne & Wear Sport, one of 49 County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), has been awarded the Intermediate Level of the NSPCC National Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport. The award demonstrates its commitment to creating a safer environment for children, where they can enjoy and get the best from their involvement in sport.

David Marrin, Assistant Director for Widening Access at Tyne & Wear Sport said: 

“Achieving the award demonstrates our partnership’s commitment to safeguarding and protecting children and young people in sport throughout Tyne & Wear, and the improvements we’ve made - and continue to make - in this important area of work.

“The continued work towards meeting these standards enables sports professionals to have the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of children. These skills are vital if we are to achieve our aim of providing opportunities for all of our young people to make Tyne & Wear an active and successful sporting area.”

The NSPCC standards cover areas including: policy, education and training, communication, implementation and monitoring, prevention and codes of practice and behaviour.
