Tenants select contractors to deliver four-year £32m improvement scheme.
Castle Morpeth Housing, part of the Isos Housing Group, has signed an official charter with two partnering contractors, chosen by tenants to carry out improvements on thousands of homes across the borough as part of an extensive £32 million investment programme.
Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) North East and the Mears Group will work alongside Castle Morpeth Housing to carry out the four-year programme, set to improve over 2,200 affordable homes across the Castle Morpeth area, ensuring all the properties meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.
Tenants were given the opportunity to have a leading role in the selection of the Contractors process from scoring the submissions, selecting for interview and the final awarding of the contracts.
Homes will benefit from improvements ranging from bathroom and kitchen replacement, electrical rewiring and heating renewal. The safety and wellbeing of tenants will be a top priority for the property upgrades, with the latest carbon monoxide detectors being installed as part of the improvement package.
Tina Drury, managing director of Castle Morpeth Housing, said: “These are exciting times for the area. Delivering improved homes and services to our tenants and bringing long lasting benefits to local communities is what Castle Morpeth Housing is all about.
“This investment will see the delivery of high quality maintenance to all our tenants’ homes, as well as improving our services.”
Two additional charters were also signed, including a Customer Charter – a commitment by Castle Morpeth Housing and both partners to fully involve, consult and maintain an honest relationship will all tenants – and a Health and Safety Charter, created to ensure that a clear and safe code of conduct is maintained throughout the partnership.
Tina added: “Involving our tenants in what we do to ensure that improvements and services meet their needs and aspirations is of the utmost importance. They have had a chance to express their views on the investment programme and had a strong role in choosing the partners.”
The initial four-year initiative is the first phase of a £120 million investment programme over the next 30 years, improving homes, neighbourhoods and services for Castle Morpeth Housing residents.
