Rail deal on track to boost conferencing

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau has scored another first after launching a discount rail offer for conference delegates travelling to the ‘twin cities’.

The Bureau has teamed up with East Coast – which operates train services along the East Coast Main Line, linking London King's Cross, York, NewcastleGateshead and Edinburgh – to provide a 20% discount off first and standard class advance purchase rail travel to and from a conference being held in the ‘twin cities’.

Tickets can be booked three months prior to the conference date and would be valid for travel both before and after the conference, providing flexibility for delegates keen to add to their business trip by lengthening their stay.

Dawn Reay, business development manager at East Coast, said: “We’re delighted to work with the Bureau to offer this service which will prove to be a great incentive for conference organisers and delegates alike. In the present economic climate a saving like this is a really attractive option.”

A bespoke web page will be set up for each individual conference secured by the Convention Bureau where delegates will be able to book their travel requirements online and make their 20% saving.

Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “This provides a real value-for-money boost for delegates and demonstrates how NewcastleGateshead works together proactively with partners and members to add value for conference organisers.

“It is already quick, clean and efficient for delegates to get to NewcastleGateshead, with the journey from London taking less than three hours and Edinburgh and Leeds just 1 ½ hours away, but now it’s even better value too.”
