A19 temporary lane closure north of Tyne Tunnel

Construction of the new toll plaza that will serve the second vehicle tunnel under the Tyne is moving into a new phase of works. These works require a temporary lane closure on the A19 northbound.

From 10.00am on Monday 8th February 2010 the A19 will be reduced to one lane of traffic travelling north from the Tyne Tunnel. The lane closure will take effect between the roundabout situated adjacent to the existing toll plaza and the A193 (Tynemouth Road) slip road.

The lane closure is expected to remain in place for the duration of the construction works on the new toll plaza, a period of up to fifty weeks.

The Tyne Tunnel will remain open for business as usual, and TT2 recovery vehicles will be on standby to assist in removing broken down vehicles.

No lane closures are planned on the southbound carriageway during these works, although temporary lane realignments are anticipated later in the year as construction works progress.
