Submitted by on Fri, 4.07.08

North East based construction consultant RNJ has been appointed to work on a £1million refurbishment within South Tyneside District Hospital.

RNJ will be working as quantity surveyor and CDM coordinator on both Ward 8 and the main entrance and concourse to the Ingham Block at the hospital, based on Harton Lane in South Shields.

John Gibson, partner at RNJ, said: “We have successfully completed work at South Tyneside District Hospital, building on our relationship with the South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust over the past 25 years. RNJ offers a multi-disciplinary service for clients and is delighted to play a part in updating and revamping local hospital facilities.”

The work on Ward 8 involves alterations and upgrading work to a general medical ward to form an integrated stroke rehabilitation unit.

The main Ingham Wing entrance and concourse work involves the relocation and re-provision of public facilities. These include a reception, café, building society office, League of Friends shop and toilets, together with the upgrade of automatic entrance doors, concourse fittings and finishings and provision of new canopies.
