Partner buy-out sees AMD take its marketing to new heights

Specialist coating company to expand customer base with new marketing tools.

AMD Specialist Coatings Ltd, a specialised high-quality product finishing company, is investing in new marketing tools to expand the company's already impressive client base after Managing Director Steve Davis recently bought-out a silent partner with a fund injection from Evolve Finance - the specialist mezzanine and debt division of NEL Fund Managers Limited.

Already well-established in the specialist coatings industry, Team Valley-based AMD applies its coatings to signage for national companies such as Escott Signs and the Red Forest Group, and has recently applied protective and aesthetic coatings to the new main sign at Newcastle International Airport.  The company also works closely with the Tanfield Group and Express Group on a number of other national projects.

With coatings that can be used on a range of materials - aluminium, plastics, MDF, wood, steel and galvanised products - AMD's potential customer base is wide, and Davis is keen to reach these customers with new marketing tools.

Specifically, Davis is developing a new company brochure and website - also enabled by the funding boost from NEL.

Founded in May 2000, AMD has established a profile within the industry which emphasises quality customer service and products.  It is this theme that will be thread through its new marketing products and position the company even more firmly on the national stage.

Davis said:  "We have worked hard to set ourselves apart from our competitors by prioritising customer service and care, as well as the quality of our coatings.  Our Service First Associate accreditation with Akzo Nobel is a testament to this and gives us the ideal theme with which to market our company.

"Once the buy-out had completed, we were keen to implement our growth plans, and the development of effective marketing tools was key.  Both the brochure and website are going to help us reach our current and potential customers.

"As well as providing the funding to open these doors, NEL has provided direction and also pointed us towards organisations that can offer advice when it comes to growing a business - specifically setting up introductions with Business Link.  With NEL you don't just get financial support you also receive a very attentive consultation service to ensure we can meet our business goals."

Simon Johnson, Senior Investment Executive with NEL, said:  "We were keen to work with Steve as he's a businessman that always strives to take the company one step further, never settling for a plateau.  The company has already been successful in securing relationships with a number of big brands and yet Steve recognises that there are more opportunities for growth.

"He put forward a strong proposal for expansion, which included the buy-out and marketing plan, and there was no question about whether we should support him in this.  It's always rewarding being a part of a North East success story."
