Students studying for a Masters Degree at Durham Business School can now achieve one of the highest qualifications available for a career in finance, whilst also preparing for an internationally recognised qualification.

In a new partnership announced with the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute - a non-profit association of investment professionals - all Masters Degrees in Economics and Finance at the Business School, will now cover more than 70 per cent of the curriculum  required for the CFA Program which students can be opt to take after graduating.

The CFA Institute promotes high ethical standards and ways of working and offers a range of educational opportunities for professionals. The CFA Program is a self-study course for professionals taken over a three-year period, which demonstrates a high level of skill and ability.

Durham Business School students will now study for their Masters Degree and prepare for the CFA Program at the same time, gaining useful knowledge and transferable skills for the future.

After graduating, the students can then choose to sit three levels of examinations to gain the highly-regarded CFA Charter.

The partnership has been hailed a huge boost to the Business School and its students, who will now benefit from the advantage of being pre-prepared for the CFA qualification, a process which is rapidly becoming a must for leading employers throughout the world.

Dr Emilios Galariotis, director of MSc programmes at Durham Business School, said: “We are delighted to become a CFA Program Partner.  The CFA charter has long been the gold standard among professional finance qualifications. Our Masters programmes combine the highest academic standards with rigorous practical application.

“Durham Business School’s partnership with the CFA Institute is testament to this exceptional combination. Our students have a unique opportunity to study for outstanding academic and professional qualifications in the region.”

Dannies McLeavey, head of education at the CFA, said: “Competition for the best jobs in finance has never been tougher. Today more than 175, 000 candidates have enrolled worldwide to study for the CFA examinations. We know increasing numbers of recruiters are looking for candidates who have earned the CFA charter.  This agreement sets Durham Business School graduates well on the way to earning professional recognition.”

As well as ensuring students are familiar with CFA Program content, students at the Business School will also have access to official CFA Institute textbooks, journals, webcasts, and other educational resources.

Students will also benefit, from professional development events held in conjunction with the CFA Society of the UK.
